To gain a better understanding of what Educating Independence aims to do start by asking yourself the following questions:
- Who, what and where in my life am I dependent?
- Do the things that I am dependent on serve me?
- If not, do I want to change them?
- Can they be changed?
- If so how will can I change them?
- When will I change them by?
Educating Independence exists to help people with each part of this process. To identify needs and to learn to meet them.
If there is an end result it is to help a person become more self sufficient. To become someone who feels more resilient in their experience of life. To have relationships that they have chosen and not because they feel bound by a sense of necessity. In this respect it is about creating freedom and choice through personal awareness and responsibility.

ABOUT EDUCATING INDEPENDENCE
We are all in it together, until we learn how to do it for ourselves.
After which we are still all in it together.
We are all dependent. Our dependencies are an interwoven web on which we balance each and every day. Most of us depend on others to grow and deliver our food and our power, our water and our entertainment. We depend on those who remove our waste and those who process it. We can depend on others for love and warmth and company. Also as an integrated part of the complex web of life that envelops the world, we know we are dependent on that too.
Educating Independence recognises these things.
"To survive in the world, we have to act in concert with others, but to survive as ourselves, rather than simply as cogs in a wheel, we have to act alone."
